MISSION

To be a leader in social impact by offering distinctive Kenyan Sign Language Training; bridging the communication barrier and promoting effective service delivery for the Deaf Kenyans in both public and private sectors.

COMMITMENT

HSLTC is fully committed to offering quality and affordable Kenyan Sign Language training to Kenyans of diverse origins in order to bridge the communication gap between the Deaf and hearing population, and to improve the accessibility of basic services for the Deaf people in Kenya.

What We Do

Kenyan Sign Language Training

The Centre is committed to offering quality, competitive and affordable basic and advanced Kenyan Sign Language training to two (2) identified groups; one is providers of key basic services to enhance effective service delivery for the marginalized Deaf Kenyans, the second group is interested members of the general public to bridge the communication gap evidenced daily.

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language that goes to his heart”
-Nelson Mandela

Mentorship

Our mentorship programme aims at promoting literacy skills, self-esteem, confidence and social aptness among Deaf and hard of hearing children thus prepare them to be productive members of the society after their studies.

“It’s easier to build strong children than to repair broken men”

– Fredrick Douglass

Advocacy

Our advocacy programme emphases on demystifying myths associated with Deafness and raising awareness on the rights of Deaf people and their Disability counterparts.

“I know what it’s like to be growing up, called ‘deaf and mute’ and ‘deaf and dumb.’ They’re words that are very degrading and demeaning to people who are deaf and hard of hearing. It’s almost… it’s almost libelous, if you want to say that”

-Marlee Matlin
